Diagnostic Activity Due Jun 2 by 11:59pm Points 10 Submitting a text entry box Available Apr 14 at 12am – Jun 6 at 11:59pm Jovy is a 42-year-old, married, mother of two. In addition to parenting her high-school-aged children, Jovy works full-time as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in a convalescent care facility. Two years ago Jovy suffered major back and neck injuries in a car accident. At the time she was prescribed medication, including Oxycodone to treat chronic pain. Despite undergoing weekly physical therapy, Jovy’s pain has persisted. And so has her use of prescription pain meds. In the last 6 months Jovy has had to take increasingly more meds throughout the day to keep the pain at bay. Jovy’s physicians have indicated that they would not prescribe any more meds. So, she has taken to swiping pain meds from friends and family’s medicine cabinets. She’s sworn to herself that “this is it” that she’s got to get control of her use. But when she tries to cut back she feels intense muscle pain, insomnia, and nausea. A couple of times Jovy has been so desperate that she’s taken Percocet and Valium from some of her elderly hospice patients. Does Jovy’s use constitute a substance used disorder? If so, what level of severity? (please explain your answer using DSM-V criteria)
