reply to this post: The role of risk mitigation is a team of nurses and health care professionals who focus on “Prioritizing, evaluating, and implementing the appropriate risk-reducing controls/countermeasures recommended from the risk management process” (NIST, 2023) This means that they look into areas of weakness within the company and the care team strategies to try and find solutions to prevent these potential hazards from ever taking place. I think it is important to understand exactly the role of CMS and why it is important to have the accreditation, having deemed status means “This means that the healthcare facilities with deemed status do not need to undergo a separate survey by CMS to become eligible for participation in Medicare and Medicaid programs” (LePelusa & Bohlen, 2023) Which assists with reimbursement, legal allowed operations and so much more. One organization who lost its accreditation during my research I found out is, Galesburg hospital lost it’s accrediation back in December of 2021, which went into affect in 2022 about 3 years ago and that had a major affect on the patients because the question of who would take care of them and where they would go was a major factor along with the jobs lost of all of the workers in the organization (Martin, 2021) The article stated “Cottage Hospital lost access to its Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements for inpatient services for failing to ensure the health, safety and well-being of patients cause of loss” (Martin, 2021) This basically was from ongoing issues not resolved after creating new care plans and after being warned several times. If the hospital didn’t have the resources or the knowledge on how to improve they could have hired someone or seek more help and guidance from a hospital who is thriving.
